John Jacob Walk was the fourth of nine known children of Abraham J. Walk (1782-1866) and Catherine (went by Cathy) Lopp Walk (1783-1858), who married c1810 in probably Indiana. Abraham had first been married to Hannah (maiden name unknown) (1783-???) in c1808 (in North Carolina or Indiana?). It is not thought that Abraham and Hannah had any children. It is thought that Abraham moved from North Carolina to Harrison County, Indiana in 1808. At the time of the 1810 census Abraham and his second wife, Cathy, were living alone at Harrison County, Indiana.
John first married to Mary Ann Boley (1822-1845) on 01 February 1838 at Harrison County, Indiana. John and Mary were the parents of two known children, namely:

2. Catherine Walk Bringle (1841-1907)
After Mary died, John remarried to Julia Ann Sonner (1823-1899) on 07 Dec 1847 at Harrison County, Indiana. John and Julia were the parents of eight known children, namely:

4. Joseph Lane Walk (1849-1938)
5. Mary B. Walk Jenkins (1853-1924)
6. Isaac Wilford Walk (1854-1911)
7. Margaret Lydia Walk Blevins (1856-1937)

John Jacob Walk entered the service on June 18, 1846, PVT 2nd Reg, Indiana Volunteers (1) Co. John Jacob Walk mustered out at New Orleans, Louisiana on June 28, 1847.
