S.O. Hill was a farmer and the father of 11 children, 8 of whom lived to adulthood: Kenneth, Delbert, Amos, Rolland, Albert, Vie, Ellen, and Helen. He met his first wife and the mother of his kids, Clara Myrtle Lauderdale, when he helped her family's stranded covered wagon travel to safety.
