He was the son of Isaac a farmer and Annie Wass and the brother of Luke, George, Annie Marie, Jane and Alice Wass. In 1901 and 1911 they lived on Forest Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Isaac and Annie later lived at Blackmaries Farm, Sutton in Ashfield.

Abraham originally joined the reserves on 2nd March 1916 but was mobilised on 9th April 1917. He was posted on 11th April 1917 to the cavalry reserve at Scarborough. During his training he was posted on 5th July 1917 to the Norfolk Regiment and on 19th October 1917 joined the British Expeditionary Force in France via Folkstone. On 4th December 1917 while at No 5 casualty clearing station, having suffered gunshot wounds to the chest he died .
