Reverend George Washington Lovingood was the first pastor of Hanging Dog Baptist Church, which was organized on May 4,1844.

Beloved husband of Nancy Weeks Lovingood whom he married on January 23, 1825 in Haywood, Chatham, North Carolina. They were the parents of Caroline, Matilda, Drury, Robert, James Madison, Amanda Elizabeth, George, Eliza Jane, Noah, Nancy, Winifred, Newton Harmon, Napoleon, and William Lovingood.
