Gerry Gapinski, 81, of Battle Lake, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

Geraldine (Gerry) Elizabeth Gapinski was born on Aug. 1, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., to Peter and Laura (Grabinger) Thompson. Gerry was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She graduated from LeClaire High School in LeClaire, Iowa.

On Oct. 20, 1946, Gerry was united in marriage to Edwin Gapinski at St. Henry's Catholic Church in LeClaire, Iowa. Gerry worked at Strieter Motors in Davenport, Iowa, as Office Manager. In the late 1950s, Gerry and Ed owned and operated Grand Vu Resort on Leech Lake for three years until they returned to LeClaire.

In 1972 Ed and Gerry moved to Battle Lake where she worked at First National Bank. Gerry moved into the Lakeview Senior Apartments in Battle Lake in 2007.

Gerry was an avid volunteer for the Christian Women's Club, the Battle Lake Food Shelf and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She also enjoyed reading for the blind and coordinating many of the Lakeview Senior Apartments activities. She was ‘Aunt Gerry' to many nieces and nephews and always enjoyed their company.

Gerry is survived by two sisters, Loretta (Bill) Buchheit of LeClaire, Iowa, and Darlene (Gene) Bremmer of Parkers Prairie; two brothers, Loren P. (Janie) Thompson of Detroit Lakes, and Patrick (Laurie) Thompson of Alexandria; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, on April 8, 1996; her parents, Peter and Laura; and three sisters: Arlene, Delores, and Mary Jane.

Visitation: Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake

Clergy: Revs. LeRoy Schik, Paul Folsom and Robert Kieffer

Burial: Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Cemetery, Battle Lake
