ERWIN HARKEY KILLED MARCH 2 IN GERMANY
In Army Eight Months, Over Since January

Pfc. Carrol Erwin Harkey, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin L. Harkey, Oak Hill, was killed in action in Germany March 2, according to war department notification received by his wife Thursday at Holly Creek.

Pvt. Harkey was born and reared at Oak Hill and attended Idabel and Broken Bow schools. He had been in service since last July and overseas since January.

Mrs. Harkey and little son, Joe Riley, are residing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Billingsley, Holly Creek.

He is also survived by one sister, Miss Nancy Lou Harkey, Oak Hill; and two brothers, Cyle Harkey, Oak Hill, and Pvt. Clement Harkey, Fort Sill.

He was a nephew of Mrs. H. L. Rimmer and J. P. Harkey.

BUDDY VISITS FAMILY OF PVT. HARKEY WHO DIED IN ACTION

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin L. Harkey and family of Oak Hill, had as their guests for three days last week, Sgt. Lyle E. Casper and wife of Davenport, Iowa. Sgt. Casper was one of the tank crew in which Pvt. Carrol Erwin Harkey was killed. Pvt. Harkey was killed March 2, 1945, in Modrath, Germany.

Sgt. Casper was seated directly behind young Harkey, who was driver of the tank. He and another boy seated directly to his right were killed instantly by an 88 MM gun from an enemy tank.

Sgt. Casper just discharged from the army, came to get acquainted with and visit the family of his buddy and to keep a covenant.
