After the war he engaged in the furniture business in Sidney, followed by work in the grocery business. Henry was active in the community. He was elected sheriff of Fremont County in 1866; was a member of the board of supervisors, township trustee, city councilman, treasurer, and secretary of the school board. He was a strong Christian and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and an elder for many years. He was a Royal Arch Mason, a member of IOOF Lodge, and a charter member of Joe Ross Post G.A.R.
Henry had been confined to his bed for a number of weeks when he died at the age of 72 years 4 months 24 days.
