Pfc. Clay L. Burns, age 19, was killed in action as General Patton's Third Army crossed the Rhine into Germany April 15. This casualty is of special local interest because of the fact that the young hero's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ava Burns, are natives of Madison county and former residents of Huntsville. They have resided at Arkansas City, Kas., several years. Private Burns had been overseas only four months.
Mr. and Mrs. Burns have four other sons in service - Adryan in the Army Air Corps, Arlie in the Navy, Harvey as an Air Corps mechanic on a B-29 and Glen in the Merchant Marines.
The above information was obtained by the Record from the father who visited his brother, Melvin Burns, and relatives and old home friends first of the week at and near Huntsville. Ava was accompanied by a friend, J. M. McCum, also of Arkansas City.

Final rites for Pfc. Clay L. Burns, returned war hero, will be held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 6, a two o'clock. Pfc. Burns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ava Burns, 425 South Eight St., Arkansas City, Kans., was killed March 15, 1945, while in action against the Germans with Gen. Patton's Third Army. Four other sons of Mr. and Mrs. Burns who were in service returned safely.
According to word received from the parents, they will arrive here on Saturday preceding the funeral services. The body of Pfc. Burns arrived at the Brashears Funeral Home here this week.
In addition to the parents the war victim is survived by a son, Clay Lyle Burns, who resides with his mother, Mrs. Elois Bowman, Rte. 4, Arkansas City, Kans.; six brothers, Wiley Burns of Webb City, Okla., Arley Burns, Vinita, Okla., Wallace Burns of Tulsa, Harvey Burns of the U. S. Army in Bermuda, Adryan Burns of Fredonia, Kans., and Glenn Burns of 720 North Fourth St., Arkansas City. A sister, Miss Geneva Joy Burns, is a student at Peniel College, Bethany, Okla.
Hayes-Smith Post 137 of the American Legion will conduct the military rites at the funeral, it is announced by James Roy Litterell, commander. Brashears Funeral Home will have charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in Alabam cemetery.
