DEATH OF MR. JOSEPH BARNES
Last Monday Mr. Joseph Barnes died at his home near Byron, and the interment was at Byron Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Barnes was nearly 60 years old, a man well known and esteemed throughout Houston and all this section of the state. Mr. Emmett Barnes, official stenographer of the Macon circuit, is his only son. He had been in feeble health for several months, but not until a few days ago was it feared that death would come.
The HOME JOURNAL joins the many friends of the bereaved family in extending sympathy.
As an evidence of the esteem in which Mr. Barnes was held, we reproduce the following from the Macon Telegraph: "Mr. Barnes was a leading citizen of Byron, and was one of the most highly esteemed gentlemen of Houston County. He was a prominent figure in every movement that was for the advancement of his county's interest, and was always foremost in everything that was for the good of his county and native state. He was a brave and generous-hearted man, possessing all of those great traits of nobility, courage and magnanimity that characterize the true southern gentleman, such as he was. Mr. Barnes was quite well known in Macon and, in fact, all over the state he has hosts of friends. His pleasant smile and courteous manners always won him friends wherever he went."
