Eva Roberta Aylor Fennel

Eva Roberta Fennel, 92, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at McKenzie United Methodist Church where she faithfully served for 61 years. The Rev. Charles A. Cox officiated, and burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were W. T. Blair, Toby Byrd, Ronnie Blair, Ron Clark, Jan Cummins and Dennis Whitlock.

Arrangements were under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove, Texas.

She was born May 17, 1911, in Eden to John Thomas Aylor and Sophronia Lee Aylor.

One of 14 children, she lived most of her life in Honey Grove where she was deeply loved by all who were privileged to know her. For 32 years she took great pride in preparing and serving delicious and nutritious lunches for several generations of children of the Honey Grove Independent School District before retiring in 1976. She was known to most of the children as their "adopted granny."

She married Robert Lee Daniels in Honey Grove on May 8, 1936. He died on July 23, 1942.

She later married Oscar Fennel in Honey Grove on Oct. 31, 1944, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1984.

She will always be remembered as a kind, loyal, and loving person whose positive outlook on life touched all who came into contact with her. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Dorothy Fennel Gilbreath; two brothers, Johnnie Lee Roy Aylor and Harold Aylor; and three sisters, Mable Jean Potts, Addie Aylor and Mary Aylor.

She is survived by a step-son, Bobbie Fennel; grandchildren, Elaine Amato, Larry Gilbreath, Mickey Fennel and Johnnie Fennel, all of Fort Worth; a host of loving great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lavon Aylor of Olney; and sisters, Lillian Smith of Abilene, Laverne Strickland of Boyd, Loreta Holmes of Harrold, Elizabeth Graves of Olney, and Juanita Cox, Oneta McCraw and Martha Branch, all of Bakersfield, Calif.
