John Wesley Proctor was the third child born to Augustus Lambert Proctor and Annette Lois Howard Proctor, who were married Feb 1, 1850. When he was born in St. Lawrence Co., N.Y. on April 29, 1853, he joined his siblings George Augustus 1850, and Mary Howard 1851. There was two more brothers born in Ogdinsburgh, N.Y., Harlan Page 1855, and Frederic Oberlin 1857. His mother, Annette Lois Howard Proctor, died in Ogdensburgh, N.Y. March 17, 1862. When John Wesley was 11 yrs old, in 1864, the family moved to Hickory Grove Twp., Jasper Co., Iowa. After his school years, he operated a restaurant. When he and Nettie were married, July 14, 1892, he was a Grinnell restaurant owner. Children born to them in Grinnell, Iowa, were Lois Annette 1893, John Wesley Jr. 1894, Miriam Isabel 1896, and daughter Caryl 1898. John and Nettie moved with their family of four children to Corning, Ca. in 1899-1900. In Corning , John became a farmer. Both he and Nettie loved the land and temperate winter weather and abundance of fresh vegetables and fruit. In Corning, Ca. 3 sons were born to them, Henry Sutliff 1901, Charles Knapp 1903, and Myron Forster 1908. They lived in Corning, Ca until 1910 and moved to Hughson, Ca where they purchased a home and farm. Their children attended schools in Modesto and Hughson. And the boys learned the life of a farmer. A move off the farm at Hughson and into Turlock was made in 1924 where they lived until John Wesley died November 5, 1931. John Wesley was buried in Turlock Memorial Park. All seven of their children lived their entire life in California.
