According to all available records Henry moved, by himself, to the States at age 17 and graduated from the Western Homeopathic College of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1869.
In 1872 he married Mary Margaret Harford from Pennsylvania. Their two daughters were born in Independence, Kansas. The family soon moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Henry had a successful general practice as a physician.
Both daughters had long careers as high school teachers and cared for their widowed father in the family home.
