Thomas Frank Locklear, Jr., age 79, New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at home surrounded by his wife and six daughters. Born in Rome, Georgia, to Thomas F. Locklear, Sr. and Beatrice Eakin Locklear, Mr. Locklear came to this area in 1964 from North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a 1948 graduate of Rome Boy's High School and then received an Associate of Business Degree from the University of Georgia. Frank served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. Upon his return, he married Doris "Dot" Elliot of High Point, North Carolina, his wife of 56 years. A quality control engineer for 44 years in the aerospace industry, working with the United States Government, NASA, and E. G. & G., Frank served as a scoutmaster of the Boy Scout troop sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of New Smyrna Beach, coached Little League baseball, and enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Doris "Dot"; six daughters, Terrye (Randy) Hensley, Gainesville, Trudy Johnson, Lake Mary, Tina (Bob) Beecraft, St. Augustine, Tricia (Robert) Miller, Edgewater, Tammy (John) Giaimo, Longwood, and Tonia (Greg) Marin, Medway, Massachusetts; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel. Funeral services and interment will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Summerville, Georgia, under the direction of Wallace and Wilbanks Funeral Home.
