Alice Ray Rushing, 88, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany. She was born Oct. 22, 1917, to Noonan and Mattie Birmingham Farrar. She was an active member of Center Star Methodist Church until her illness. She was employed as a supervisor at the former Mantachie Manufacturing Company for more than 40 years. She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie with Bro. Rank Boyte and Bro. Castor Buse officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Gerald Rushing and wife, Ellen, and Bro. Buddy Rushing and wife, Janice, of Mantachie, and Bro. Danny Rushing and wife, Vickie, of Tupelo; two daughters, Sue Abernethy of Tupelo, and Coleen Vlach and husband, Jim, of Madison; 11 grandchildren, Donna Kelso, Betsy Smith, Terry Abernethy, Toni Zweig, Wendy Kyle, Amy Cooper, Wilton Cooper, Brian Rushing, Arlene Fogal, Bradley McDonald and Ashley Vlach; 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Noreen Barksdale of Grenada, Paula Lytal of Baldwyn, Johnny Hale of Southaven and Elise Hinds of Marietta; one brother-in-law, Cortez Rushing of Fulton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Rushing, in 1990; and her parents, six brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. to service time Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Center Star Methodist Church, 8870 Hwy. 363, Mantachie, MS 38855; or to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
