GERALD PAUL LEATHERWOOD died Tuesday, September 2, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Louise Leatherwood of Sugar Land, Texas; a brother, Ralph Leatherwood and wife, Jeanette, of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Virginia Leatherwood of Galena Park, Texas; and his sister, Ruth Leatherwood-Newton and husband, Jack, of Gun Barrel City, Texas; his children, Judy Leatherwood-Smith and husband, Wayne, of Sugar Land, David Leatherwood and wife, Penny, of Keller, Texas, and Steven Leatherwood and wife, Jill, of Libertyville, Illinois; along with 5 grandsons and 3 granddaughters, 7 greatgrandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces, all who loved him dearly. Mr. Leatherwood was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Julia Leatherwood of Galena Park, Texas, and his younger brother, John Leroy Leatherwood of Galena Park [as well as his childhood brothers, Clifton & Calvin].

Gerald Leatherwood was born on September 13, 1921 in Victoria, Texas. A World War II veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Mary Louise Cupp on November 8, 1940, before leaving to serve his country. He celebrated 50 years as an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God, 28 years of which were in Angleton, Texas. During his ministry he also served as Executive Presbyter of the Gulf Coast Section of the South Texas District of the Assemblies of God.

He was a very energetic and caring Pastor as well as an avid gardener, a loving father, grandfather, and mentor and inspiration for many in the faith. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hix Cemetery in Caldwell, Texas.

In gratitude for the loving care given by the nursing staff at St. Dominic Village, the family requests that memorials be given to St. Dominic Village, 2409 E. Holcombe Blvd, Houston 77021.
