COLUMBUS FRANKLIN BAILEY
23 Nov 1852 – 6 Aug 1940 (Inscription on grave marker; obit says 5 Aug 1940)

C. F. (Columbus Franklin) Bailey, age 87, died last Monday (5 Aug 1940); one of Chambers County's oldest and lifelong residents.

A member of the Primitive Baptist Church, he had been ill only four weeks. Funeral services were conducted from the Macedonia Church on 6 Aug 1940 at 2 p.m. with Revs J. W. McBrayer and J. W. Harmon officiating. Interment was in the nearby cemetery with Cutler in charge.

Surviving are three sons, J. F. (John Foster), A. D. (Allen Driver) and W. C. (Walter Columbus) Bailey, and a number of grandchildren. Pallbearers were Frank, George, Melvin, Dewey, Flynn and Brooks Bailey.

Mr. Frank Bailey, who lives away out in the neighborhood of Chatthospa creek, is one of those whole-footed farmers who never go out of the bounds of reason (home) for a livelihood. He will make, this year, with two horses, about 23 bales of cotton, 150 bushels of corn, plenty of sugar cane, sweet potatoes, hay, peas, besides already making near 100 bushels of wheat. With a few more Frank Baileys, we would have one of the most prosperous counties in the State.
