At his home, in this place, Monday, April 17, 1905, Mr. William Humberston, aged 79 years. Mr. Humberston belonged to an old and well known family of this place and vicinity. Of quiet, unobtrusive, Christian manners, he was exemplary of a good life. His profession of devout piety was made good by long and consistent membership of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The widow and several children are bereaved by his death. He was a brother of Thomas Humberston. During the war, Mr. Humberston served the Union as a member of the 18th Pennsylvania Regiment of Calvary, and he had long been a member of Thoburn Post, G.A.R. of this place. This body turned out at the funeral Thursday afternoon."

Private William Humberston,Company C, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. At war's end, the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry and the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry were consolidated to form the 3rd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry. William was mustered out with Company C, 3rd PA Provisional Cavalry on October 31, 1865. Also listed as Humberston and Humberson.

Born in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Filed for an invalid pension on July 2, 1879, application number 295,738, certificate 409,272. Wife Mary C. Humberston filed for a widow's pension on May 25, 1905, application number 828,845, certificate number 609,190 from Maryland. Address listed as District 3, Garrett, Maryland in the 1890 Veteran's Census.
