Obituary - The Perth Courier - Aug.17,1917 -
Sergeant - Sad indeed, was the intelligence received by Mrs. John Sergeant, North Sherbrooke, when she was informed that her second youngest son, George, was instantly killed in an automobile accident on July 2nd while a party of spectators were motoring from Chaplin, Sask., to Glasgow, Montana, to attend a fourth of July celebration to be held in that place. Deceased went to Minnesota on the 12th of August, 1893, living for a while there and in North Dakota, but for the last few years had been engaged in farming in Saskatchewan, having taken a homestead near Chaplin, Sask. George, who was a bright, active, intelligent boy, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand where necessary and highly esteemed by all who knew him, was born in North Sherbrooke on the eighteenth of August, 1873, being in his 45th year at the time of his demise. Deceased was the first break in a family of nine, and leaves to mourn the loss of a loving son and brother, his mother, three sisters, and five brothers - Robert, Harper; Thomas, Snow Road; William at home; John, New York state, and Joseph, Elphin; (Mary) Mrs. A. Pitcher, Montreal; (Emma) Mrs. George Devlin, Elphin, and Minnie at home. The remains were interred in Glasgow cemetery, Montana. Much sympathy is extended to the family in their sore bereavement. Letters of condolence, also full details of the accident coming from prominent men of Chaplin, Sask., who were friends of deceased and who were with him at the time of his sudden demise.
