Mrs. Brooks was born in Rutherford County, N. C. She was the daughter of the late William Edley and Selma Rollins Jackson.
She was the widow of Joseph B. Brooks. She was a charter member of Winfield Heights Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, WMU officer and added harmony to the church, through her loving nature and her melodious voice.
She was a homemaker and served the public at The Grapevine dress shop. She was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Horton, Lillie Dolin and a brother, Roy Jackson.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph R. (Joann) Brooks of Bostic, N. C. and Normand G. (Linda) Brooks of Williston; one brother, Robert Jackson of Ellenboro, N. C.; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
