Born on November 14, 1921, in Richford, he was the son of the late Amasa and Dorothy (Todd) Newcity.

In 1940, he was a member of the National Guard Company, A 118th, Quartermaster Unit in St. Albans. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, A.L. for many years and some years as a member of Richford Post # 12.


In addition to his parents, Mayland was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Dunham on December 31, 1999, and his son, Rodney Newcity on March 28, 2010.
