Charlie was quite a character in his day, he not only liked a drink but enjoyed cigars as well. He and his brother started an Iron Foundry in Neosho, MO which was the first business in SW Missouri to have electric lights throughout. When Joplin began its rapid growth, He moved the foundry there, to 10th and Pearl near the railroad tracks. His companies Rogers Iron Works and Missouri Steel Castings mostly made machinery for the mining industry, and he held several patents for rock crushers and other devices. The finished machines were often painted a distinctive light blue for easy identification in the field.
Charlie and Dot(Dennis) married in Neosho and had two girls after they moved to Joplin, Dorothy Agnes(Spooner) and Delpha(Eberle). He was very partial to his grandsons and loved spoiling Ted(Spooner),Denny(Eberle) and Jeff(Eberle).
