Dr. Edgar Allen McGinnes Jr., 84 of Fulton passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010.
Private family services will be held.
Edgar was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Chestertown, Md., to Edgar Allen McGinnes Sr. and Emily Francis Howard.
He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Campaign and was awarded a Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and Atlantic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
He was a professor of forestry at the University of Missouri, retiring in 1988. He was named professor emeritus.
He received national honors and was named a fellow by the Society of American Foresters for his contributions to the society and forestry. Mr. McGinnes was an accomplished pianist and an outdoor enthusiast.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Thomas McGinnes of Barnard; two daughters, Christine Borgmeyer and husband Garrett of New Bloomfield, and Karen Tervo and husband Bill Zeaman of Holts Summit; three grandchildren, Kenna Tervo, Andrew and James Wieschhaus; three stepgrandchildren, Ryan Borgmeyer, Renee Perrine and Rachel Bush; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jean.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
