GRAND RAPIDS -- Hazel L. (Tonjes) Long, 91, formerly of Grand Rapids, died Wednesday (March 4, 2009) at Avalon by Otterbein, Perrysburg, where she was a resident.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Grand Rapids.

Mrs. Long was a graduate of Grand Rapids High School.

Born Jan. 29, 1918 in Grand Rapids to George and Eunice Thurston Tonjes, she married Allen Peter Long on June 2, 1938. He died Aug. 10, 1984.

She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Lou King and Betty Tussing; two brothers, Art and Ralph Tonjes; and a sister, Mary Hatfield.

Surviving are three sons, Jim, Bowling Green; Mike, Irving, Texas; and Ed, of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10.am. Saturday at the church. Rev. F. Anthony Gallagher will preside. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Wright-Hobbs Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
