He was married to Jane Ballantyne at Nauvoo, Illinois April 4, 1843 by Elder William R. McClean. After their marriage they moved to Black River, Wisconsin, a little above LaCrosse where he worked for the Black River Lumber Company under the leadership of Elder Lyman Wight. Their first child, Jennet, was born at Black River on May 17, 1844.
The Mormons were not well accepted in the east so plans were made in 1845 by Elder Wight to lead a colony of about 150 people to Texas. Abram and Jane with their 10-month old baby and Jane's parents were part of the colony.
After arriving in Texas they lived in several counties. In Gillespie County four miles below Fredricksburg they built a community called Zodiac. Two children were born at Zodiac: a daughter, Jenemie in 1848 and a son, A. Mormona (Morgan) in 1849. The last child, Corolona, was born in Burnet County on February 28, 1852.
Less than a month later, on March 25, 1852, Jane died. She was buried in the old Mormon Cemetery in Burnet County. Coronola died January 9, 1853 and is buried beside her mother.
When Lyman Wight's colony disbanded Abram and his three children remained in Bandera. Abram registered the first stock marks and brand in that county. On February 16, 1857 he was selected and approved to sit on the first grand jury of the newly organized county.
Abram died the latter part of 1859 in Bandera. His burial site is unknown; he is not listed in any Bandera County cemeteries.
Jane's brother, William Ballantyne, filed for guardianship of the three children in March, 1860, Bandera County, Texas.
Further details of the children and who they married are included in Jane's memorial.
This information was obtained from a written family history of Abram and Jane Moncur.
