Leon George Herring, 65, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away Friday, September 12, 2008, at his home. George was born on January 15, 1943, in Charlottesville, Virginia, a son of the late Johnny and Phyllis Barksdale Herring. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Ferneyhough; and brothers, Claude W. Herring and Mason B. Herring. He is survived by his fiance', Liz Carter; children, Teresa Knight and her husband, Aubrey, Leon George Herring Jr. and his wife, Darlene, Gregory W. Herring and his wife, Tonya, Lisa Peresse, Eric Herring and his wife, Jessica, Jamie Weiford, Tina Maupin and David, Jeannie Johnson (Travis); 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Herring and his wife, Margaret. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Teague Chapel. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
