Charles Roosevelt Herring Sr. 92 of Earlysville departed this life Sunday, May 14, 1995, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Born Aug. 2, 1902 in Greene County, he was a son of the late Thomas Leland Herring and Cornelia Patience Shifflett Herring. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Etha Knight Herring; one son Almond W. Herring; one grandson Almond W. Herring Jr. and eight brothers. He is survived by one son, Charles R. Herring Jr., and his wife, Oneida of Earlysville; one daughter, Geraldine (Gerri) Gilbert, and her husband, Bob. Of Ruckersville; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Herring was a retired State Highway Department employee and farmer. He was a longtime member of Pine Ridge Church of the Brethren, where he served as a trustee for many years. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Ridge Church of the Brethren, Earlysville with the Rev. J. Richard Keller officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
