Note: memorial updated January 31, 2014 with name clarificaton.

The first name as used on the headstone inscription is clearly "Adaline", while the Fairfield Daily Journal obituary used "Adeline". F/A/G naming preference is for what is on the inscription, so this memorial was entered with "Adaline", but obviously family researchers should note the "Adeline" spelling in their research.

MRS. BEORGE BYARD DIED THIS MORNING

Mrs. George W. Byard passed awasy this morning at 9:15 o'clcok at her home on West Jackson Street after an illness of two months with typhoid fever and complications.

Adeline McKinny, daughter of Elijah and Sarah McKinny, was born in Terre Haute, Ind., Dec. 24, 1848, where she grew to womanhood.

On Sept. 17th, 1868, she was united in marriage to George W. Byard at Terra Haute (sic), Ind., and to this union were born eight children, five of whom preceded their mother in death, Ollie and Alice who were twins, Mae, Jerry, and Esther. Three children survive, George Edward Byard of Mimberly, Idaho, Mrs. Matilda Stout of Davenport (see: Matilda Byard Stout), and Mrs. Bertha Gardner of Bonaparte. One sister Mrs. Sarah Woods of Indiana, also survives.

In 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Byard moved to Peoria, Ill., where they resided until 1883, when they moved to Fairfield and have since made this city their home.

Mrs. Byard was an affectionate mother and a kind neighbor and will be greatly missed by not only her husband and family but by her neighbors and friends.

The funeral services will be held at the Free Methodist church Sunday at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. Lewis Mendenhall and the remains laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery (sic. actually buried in the Old Fairfield City cemetery; it and Evergreen cemetery are adjacent to each other but separate, and sometimes obituary and even death records listed one or the other in place of the other cemetery).
