Mrs. J. H. Wood
Matilda Caylor, daughter of M. C. (Michael C.) and Mary Caylor, was born in Washington county, Va., February 16th, 1856 and departed this life, February 2nd, 1939, age 82 years, eleven months and sixteen days.
She was united in marriage in 1873 to J. H. (John Henry) Wood. To this union was born five sons and three daughters. One son (Joel) and one daughter preceeding her
in death. Those surviving are as follows: G. W. (George Washington), N. C. (Newton Campbell), W. S. (William Samuel), and C. C. (Clarence Columbus), all of Cabool;
Mrs. Cintha Flowers of Mantizuma (Montizuma), Kansas, Mrs. Pearlie Pickle of Bartlesville, Okla., one sister, Mrs. H. M. (Henry Minor) Mead of Cabool.
Her husband departed this life in 1929. Since his death she has continued to live on the old place. For the past three years she has been an invalid and confined to her home.
At the age of 18 she became a Christian and united with the Methodist church, later she united with the Free Will Baptist church of Hamilton Creek. She was a true companion, a loving mother and a faithful Christian, many times walking a longe (long) distance to be in the service of her Master. She loved her Bible, read it to her children and admonished them to obey its commands. Besides the relatives mentioned, she leaves a number of other relatives and friends to mourn her going. For some time she knew her departurewas near and was willing and ready to go.
Funeral services were held Feb. 3 at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. E. F. Maness. Burial was in the home cemetery with the Elliott Funeral home in charge
