Heflin Hunters have said that Elizabeth was to have been born in Berkeley Parish, in Spottsylvania Co., VA, the daugher of James Crain & Lucy MINOR. Her calculated birthdate might have been 31 Aug 1777.

She met and wed Elijah Heflin in the old county court house in Washington, Mason Co., KY on 16 Sep 1796. The country seat is now in Maysville.

There was a HEFLIN BIBLE, & a RICE BIBLE in the hands of their grand-daughter Alcy Ann HEFLIN Rice but it was trashed when she d. in Grand Jct., Mesa Co., CO. I found her grandson but he said they must have gone out with all of his grandma's "unwanted" things. Copies of some pages are in several Heflin & Rice kins' hands.

Elijah moved about from KY (1799) to IN (1827) to IL (1836) before he settled down onto a farm nr Rio, Rio Twp, Knox Co., IL where they spent their remaining years.

Her family always spelled their surname CRANE. Her father was a lawyer & his signature is frequent in Spotsylvania records. They lived in Spotsylvania until after the ARW. On 24 Dec 1788, James Crane and Lucy his wife of Berkeley Parish, Spotsylvania sold 504 acres for £357 to Spilsbe Coleman (rec'd 4 Aug 1789). They then moved to Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia). James Crane's father, Col John Scanland Crane also frequent in Spotsylvania records - always spelled Crane.
