Cecil Dean Billings, son of Harry and Oma Billings, was born April 7, 1926 at Mills, Nebraska and departed this life July 6, 1957 at the Ainsworth Hospital at the age of 31 years, 2 months and 29 days. He departed this life after an illness and hospitalization of one week. Death came as a result of virus pneumonia and encephalitis or polio.
Cecil, as a boy, lived most of his boyhood on a ranch fifteen miles east of Springview At the age of 12 years he moved with his parents to Burton, Nebraska where school was more convenient. He attended the Keya Paha County High School where he graduated with the class of 1944. He loved the farm life and all the animals. He had many fond memories of farm life which he enjoyed relating to his boys.
On June 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Jane Painter at Vermillion, South Dakota. To this union four sons were born. The oldest son died in infancy. He has three remaining sons: Ronnie Roy, 7 years; Mark Alan, 4 years; and David Dean, 5 months old. He was a wonderful father and husband. His whole thoughts were of his wife and boys. Everything he did was with concern for his family. He made many friends wherever he went and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in trouble or need. A phrase he often quoted was “Don’t fuss and quarrel for life is too short for enemies.” He was a great lover of outdoor sports. He had served the community as local fire chief. He was also active in other community affairs. Since his marriage he had been the rural mail carrier from Springview to Norden, and enjoyed serving his patrons to the best of his ability.
In April 1954, he became a member of the Springview Methodist Church. He had a great faith in his God. He tried hard to show his faith through himself to his boys so that nowhere along life’s path would they stray.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Ronnie, Mark and David; his parents, Harry and Oma Billings; one brother, Jack of Norden, Nebraska; three sisters, Wava (Mrs. Dale Adcock) and Wanda (Mrs. John Graham) both of Rockford, Illinois, and Dian who is still at home; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Jennie Painter, and many relatives and a great host of friends. We know he will be missed for more than anyone can tell, but he did leave for us all fond memories which will never be erased.
