They were the parents of six children;
William Harrison, Lucy Catherine,
Maud Sarah, Elizabeth Jane,
Edward Duncan, Ann Hasseltine.
During the Civil War Martin was captured and imprisoned at Fort Erie where he contracted tuberculosis.
In 1873 he moved to Oregon (for a better climate); then to Walla Walla, Washington; In April 1879 he moved to Pullman, Washington.
