Betty June (Cowden) Malone, 82, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Rushville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family at 9:20 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010.
She was born on Tuesday, October 25, 1927, at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. She was the daughter of the late George and Rosa Wages Cowden. She married Claude E. Malone July 28, 1945 in Lewistown, IL; he passed away October 21, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings; her husband of sixty years; a son, Steven Malone; and a great-grandson, Tyler Malone.
Surviving are eight children, Layton Malone and wife, Dee of Smithfield, IL, Linda Marie Malone Bordner of Creve Coeur, IL, Phyllis O'Brien and husband, Joseph of Springfield, IL, Gloria Shaw and husband, Keith of Dubuque, IA, Alma Johnson and husband, John of Springfield, IL, C. J. Malone and wife, Donise of Bella Vista, AR, Connie Wood of Springfield, IL, and Wesley Malone and wife Cindy of Gentry, AR; three siblings, Pauline Smith of Nowata, OK, Helen Lenhausen and husband, Dale of Fairview, IL, and George "Bud" Cowden of Canton, IL; thirty grandchildren; and forty-one great-grandchildren.
She was a licensed practical nurse, a homemaker, a fabulous cook, and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
A private family graveside service will be held at the family lot in the Christian Neck Cemetery northeast of Rushville. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
