CHARLES E ABEL ILLNESS VICTIM -
Funeral rites for Charles Edward Abel Jr., well-known former Decatur business man who died Sunday morning at his home, 3620 Thirteenth Avenue, north, in Birmingham, were conducted at Brown's Chapel on Ferry Street at 2:30 this afternoon. The Rev. J.H. Chitwood, pastor of Central Methodist Church officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Ira F, Hawkins, a former pastor. The body arrived in Decatur by rail at 9:30 this morning and was taken immediately to the chapel. Brown directed burial in City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were B.L. Malone, C.E. Poole, J.D. Bush, A.C. Dillehay, Mason Crow and W.A. Britain.

Mr. Abel is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gertrude Long Abel; a son, S.T. Abel, daughter-in-law, Mrs S.T. Abel, of Birmingham; his mother, Mrs. Demarious Abel and a brother, Henry Abel, of Decatur. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Abel was in the mercantile business here for 25 years with his father-in-law, the late S.T. Long. About 12 years ago he moved to Birmingham and entered the structural steel manufacturing business but had been virtually an invalid for the past several years.
