From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Thursday, November 22, 1928, p. 2:

Funeral services for J. M. Burkett, 77, retired contractor, who died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday at his home, 1615 Grand Avenue, were conducted at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the residence.

Rev. Tom Cunningham, assistant pastor of Broadway Presbyterian Church, officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Tarrant County Lodge No. 942, A. F. & A. M. held services at the grave.

Burkett had been a resident of this city for 30 years. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Z. T. Burkett, Archer City, and Fred Burkett, Dallas; four daughters, Miss Grace Burkett; Mrs. M. A. Griffith and Mrs. W. S. Spears, all of this city, and Mrs. G. B. Booth, Austin; two brothers, George Burkett, Summers, Ark., and T. H. Burkett, Turnersville, and two sisters, Misses Ann and Bett Burkett of Summers.
