AGED NEW HEBRON WOMAN DIES

Prentiss, Miss., May 16 – Mrs. Elvina Burkett Stamps, one of the oldest women in this section, died at the home of her son-in-law, J. B. Rogers, at New Hebron. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. H. Phillips, New Hebron pastor. Burial was made in the New Hebron cemetery. Mrs. Stamps was 94 years of age and was born and reared in the Bethany church community, south of Prentiss.

Her husband, William Stamps, died 52 years ago. He was a Confederate veteran. Mrs. Stamps was the mother of the late Judge Sam Stamps, who was for 40 years a justice of the peace in this county and in Lawrence County.

She was an aunt of J. C. Burkett, first circuit clerk of this county, and a great aunt of Mrs. C. E. Luper, of Prentiss. She resided south of Prentiss until about 30 years ago, when she removed to the New Hebron section to reside with a daughter. Surviving are her son-in-law, J. B. Rogers, New Hebron; one daughter, Mrs. Dan Rogers, Collins, and a number of nieces and nephews.
