Robert E. Affeld, 88, of Danville, IN, formerly of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Porter Hospital, Valparaiso. He was born September 3, 1917 in Valparaiso to Ernest and Jennie (Bastel) Affeld, graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1936 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Japan and the Pacific. Bob had owned and operated Bob's Standard Station on Calumet Avenue in Valparaiso for 25 years, retiring in 1978. On March 14, 1937 in Valparaiso, he married Sarah Belle "Sally" Bogan, who preceded him in death on June 13, 2004. He is survived by one daughter, Linda (Eldon) Skinner of Danville, IN; one sister, Rosie Hess of Bremen, IN; one brother, Vernon (Dorothy) Affeld of Valparaiso; three grandchildren; Holly, Brandon and Brett; two great-grandchildren, Ashlin and Logan; two nieces, Nancy Peterson of Valparaiso and Nita Rickman of Culver. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Howard; three sisters, Erma, Florence and Treva; and one niece Donna Eldridge.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, the Rev. William Foy officiating with entombment to follow at Graceland Mausoleum. Visitation Friday, 4 to 8 PM. Memorials may be made to the VNA of Porter County.
