"Hamilton Pioneer Died July Fourth"

W. G. Wilson died in Hamilton Saturday morning at 10 o'clock after an illness of 16 days. His remains were laid to rest in the Little Cowhouse Cemetery Saturday afternoon at 7 o'clock the services being conducted by Rev. J. S. Baker.
Deceased was born in Alabama August 19, 1846 and would have been 90 years of age on his next birthday. He was first married to Miss Matilda Sharp on August 30, 1870. Eight children were born to this union; Rufus Wilson of Denver; Willie Wilson, deceased; Jesse Wilson of Blue Ridge; Eddie and Edgar Wilson (twins) of the Union Community; Mrs. C. T. Lawson, Hamilton; Miss Carrie Wilson, Hamilton; and Mrs. W. E. Bartlett of Lamesa.
Mr. Wilson moved to Texas with his family in 1882 and settled in the Blue Ridge community. In the early part of 1886 his wife died and on Nov. 16, 1886 he was married to Miss Martha Berry who also preceded him in death by several years. Five children blessed this marriage: Mrs. Oscar Stroud, Borger, Mrs. Ben Brown, Hamilton; Mrs. Fred Barrett, Fort Worth; Mrs. Bernard Donohue, Farmersville, New Mexico; and James Wilson of McCamey. All except four of his children attended the funeral services.
He lived a long and useful life; he watched Hamilton County grow from a frontier settlement to one of the most progressive counties in the state. He had a part in the development of his community and was one of the pioneers who paved the way for the many advantages we have today.
Besides his children he is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren and other relatives. The News joins friends in extending sympathy to all of the bereaved ones. (Thanks to Elreeta Weathers for providing this link to me!)
