Mannis Herring, 75, of Route 3, Elkton died Saturday evening at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient four weeks. He had been ill for eight and a half years.

Mr. Herring was born September 11, 1901 in Greene County, and was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Shifflett Herring. His wife, the former Mary Jesse Williams, died September 11, 1976.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. George W. Dean, Mrs. Rudolph Lam, Mrs. Johnny Lam and James W. Herring, all of Elkton; a sister, Maggie Herring of Harrisonburg; 11 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Solsburg near Elkton, by the Rev. Morgan Kinney. Burial will be in the Elk Run Cemetery. The body is at the Brill Funeral Home in Elkton, where the family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. today. Friends also may call at the Herring home.
