ELKTON, Aug 11—George Herring, aged 74, retired Elkton farmer, died at one o'clock yesterday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for ten days. He had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Herring, a native of Greene county, has been living in the Elkton community for the past 31 years where he had many friends. He was a son of Nicholas and Nancy Herring of Greene County Herring was killed at a grade crossing accident at Elkton seven years ago. Surviving are eight children— Will, Monroe and Manis Herring, of Elkton; Janis, of near Harrisonburg; Robert of Penn Laird; Mrs. Mattie Shifflett, Elkton; Mrs. Addie Shifflett, Harrisonburg, and Mrs. Maggie Herring, at home. He also leaves two brothers, Alfred and John in Greene county. Funeral services will be held from the Elkton United Brethren Church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. W. H. Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Harvey, Everette and George Herring, Prentiss Mowbray, Clyde Miller and George Miller. The granddaughters will be flowerbearers. They are: Evelyn Shifflett, Lottie Herring, Lillian Herring, and Eunice Herring.
