John G. Yost was born in Norka Russia, and came to this Co. in 1878 with his family; to Sutton, Nebraska. "Which was the end of the C.B. & ?.R.R." and there they were met by his friend, Mr. Henry Sinner, who took him to his farm home near Harvard, Nebraska. After a while, he rented a farm and later bought farms. Raised seven sons and two daughters. The oldest daughters preceded him in death. He was all for America. Moved to town to his home in 1909. Was a member of the Methodist Church.

His father, who was also a farmer, was born at Norka, Russia, of German parentage, March 10, 1800, and died there April 20, 1865. His mother was born at Norka, September 5, 1804, and died at Harvard, Nebraska, November 25, 1882.
Mr. Yost received his education in a parochial school in Norka from which he was graduated in 1860. He is affiliated with the Harvard Methodist Episcopal Church, holds membership in the Nebraskana Society, and is a member of the Republican party.
On February 16, 1869, he married Christina Schwindt at Norka. Mrs. Yost was born at Norka, August 15, 1848, and died at Harvard, May 1, 1928. Eight children were born to their marriage, seven of whom are living: Alice, February 21, 1870, who died November 28, 1889; Henry G. May 24, 1876, who married Christiana Hamburger; Lew S., January 6, 1879, who married Anna Amelia Yost; John J., February 24, 1881, who married Mary Loos; Maggie, July 20, 1883, who married Conrad D.
