Darline D. Smith, 93, of Exeland, died on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Rusk County Memorial Hospital in Ladysmith.

Darline was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Exeland to Walter and Katherine (McGrath) Baker. She was a life-long resident of Exeland. She married Ronald J. Smith in Exeland on Dec. 24, 1941.

She worked beside her husband on the family farm and was very active in the Sawyer County Home Makers Club, when it existed. She also served on the Advisory Board of Exeland Senior Citizens.

Darline was the oldest living resident of Meadowbrook Township.

Darline was very active in her church, serving on various committees and United Methodist Women.

She was baptized at Brunette Ackerman Methodist Episcopal Church in 1933. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at her time of death.

Darline is survived by her son Clinton W. (Cynthia) Smith of White Bear Lake, Minn.; her daughter Karen K. (Rodney) Skogen of Ojibwa; her sister Inez Henry of Maplewood, Minn.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and several step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ronald, who passed away on June 25, 1991; her brother Richard Baker; her daughter Sue Mataczynski; and her sisters Clara Crye, Nona Haag, Lettie Wilson, Louese Martin, and Lucille Canaday.

A funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 2, at First United Methodist Church in Exeland with Rev. Mark Bartlett officiating. Burial was in the Windfall Cemetery in Exeland.

The Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
