Served in the revolution through 1777 1778 and 1779
He was the last survivor of George Washington's life guards .

Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer on 29 Aug 1850 p2: "ANOTHER REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIER GONE---Died in Pittston, 20th inst. Nathaniel Berry, aged 94 years and 9 months. He was born in West Bath, formerly Georgetown, Dec. 22, 1755---moved to Gardiner in 1763, where he lived until 1825, when on the death of his wife, he went to live with Mr. Leonard Blanchard, in Pittston, who married his youngest daughter. He entered the army in '77, when 21 years old, under Col. Gibbs, for three years. The next year he was drafted as one of Washington's life guards, in which capacity he served out the remainder of his time. He was in the battles of White Plains and Monmouth, and was present at the taking of Burgoyne. His health has been very good through life, and he died at last of old age. Thus has departed another, and almost the last relic of the Revolution. The living witnesses of that struggle have nearly all passed away, and its tragic scenes, which Mr. Berry and his comrades have so often repeated, while they have seemed to fight those battles over again, live only on the pages of history, or in the traditions received from the fathers.
