Death of S. J. Clarke
S.J. Clarke, 88, of 317 North East, died at his home on Wednesday morning. Services were conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Jackson Boulevard Christian church, Chicago. Interment was at Oakridge.
Mr. Clarke was active in his business affairs until the day of his death. He had been president of the S.J. Clarke Publishing company, Chicago, for forty years. Prior to that he had been in the same business elsewhere for fifteen years. His company was well known in the historical and biographical publishing field.
Although he had lived in Oak Park for only four years, Mr. Clarke was a long time resident of Chicago. He had been an elder in the Jackson Boulevard Christian church sixty years and was at its services Sunday.
Mr. Clarke is survived by two daughters, Lena and Ima Clarke, at home; a son, Morris M., of Chicago, and a grandson Clarke Rogers Brown.
