William P. McCulloch was born 27 May 1812 in PA, probably in Allegheny Twp, Westmoreland Co. where his parents, James and Margaret (Patterson) McCulloch, farmed. He was married to Martha Bingham, daughter of Hugh Bingham, July 1840. He was a physician in Apollo, Armstrong Co., PA in 1850 and in Freeport , Armstrong Co., PA in 1860.
During the Civil War, William P. McCulloch enlisted as assistant surgeon, in Company S of the 78th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers on 11 April 1863 in the Civil War. He mustered out on 4 Nov 1864. He received a commission in the Quartermaster's Department Regiment U.S. Volunteers and a promotion to full Captain and Assistant Quartermaster on 9 Mar 1865. He mustered out 28 July 1865.
He died 17 September 1867. His widow applied for a Civil War widow's pension 1 August 1879 (Application No. 249211; Certificate No. 208364).
