Mattie was born in Dunklin County, Missouri. She met and later married Harry Marshall Cole in 1902. To this union were born ten children, three of which died within a week of their birth (Frankie, Mattie, and Metico). Harry died March 28, 1920 in the home near Hayti, leaving Mattie with seven children to care for. After Harry's death she met and married local itenerant farmer and preacher/minister S.D. Jones.
With Mr. Jones the family farmed in Missouri, Mississippi and Arkansas. ...
Mr. S.D. Jones was the informant listed on his son-in-laws, Clyde B. Jeffries, death certificate. After Clyde's death, Mr. Jones and Mattie assisted her daughter Nellie with a job in Blytheville by taking over the child care of Mattie's granddaughter Lydia Geneva.
When Mattie fell ill her granddaughter (Geneva) was moved back to family home on Franklin Street, Blytheville AR in time to start First grade. Over the next 1.5 years Mattie's conditioned worsened and ultimately taken to the hospital. There was nothing they could do for her and she was ultimately discharged to her daughter's (Nellie) care and died shortly thereafter.

NAME: In the Cole-Jones genealogy, done for cousin Renee Bernard Jones family, her name is listed as 'Mathilda Martha Parthenia "Mattie" Berry Cole Jones'. I'm not sure about the source, or reason, for this name. It is too long in my opinion so have modified her name in the FAG memorial to reflect this. She was most often referred to as "Mattie", and I remember her being called grandma Cole or grandma Jones. -soj
