At the death of Mary (Sam's mother) Granville (Sam's father)left the children for many months at a time. At the tender age of fourteen Albert (Sam's brother)was left to care for his siblings. Albert's brother Sam died when they lived at the "Johnson place." These were cruel people. At one point they through little Sam out the door of the house and in doing so broke his hip. Sam died from these injuries.
Albert's uncle, Alvin Ramsey, made the coffin.
