He was born New York; coming to Michigan at age four near Jackson with his father and mother. He learned the trade of mason. He and wife Emily moved to Leroy Township from Sandstone, Jackson Cty; and moved to Williamston in 1871. Two of their five children died in infancy; two sons Benjamin F and Frank O survived the parents. Daughter Cora died in 1895.
