MRS. ELIZABETH LAKE

Mrs. Elizabeth Lake died Saturday, Dec. 21, 1940, at her home on South 13th street, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 17 days. She had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. H. A. Thon, of the Church of the Nazarene, were held at the Downs funeral home, Monday afternoon, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.

Mrs. Lake wrote the following sketch of her life some time ago.

"Elizabeth Hogan, daughter of Julia Ann and Isaac Hogan, was born near New Amsterdam, Ind., July 3, 1856 and was married to John Willett on March 6, 1878. James Willett, their son, was born March 28, 1882. Mr. Willett died December 4, 1882, near New Amsterdam, Ind.

She was married to Thomas Bensinger on April 23, 1887, at Valley City, Ind. The moved to Russell, Iowa, in the fall of 1893. He died May 31, 1894. She and her son, James, then came to Chariton and made their home with her sister, Mrs. Louis Briles.

She was married to Willis Lake on Dec. 11, 1895. Mr. Lake died March 27, 1913, and James, the son, died Sept. 16, 1910.

When this is made public, I hope to be in the arms of Jesus. God knows I have never been a slacker. No difference how heavy the cross was, I carried through and I hope to get my reward in heaven."
