Stephen was the son of Wallace M.
Dillinger and Mary E.'Walker.'
He was born in Effingham, Ill.

He was the grandson of Richard Miles
Dillinger and Julia 'Holt.'Also
William John Walker and Jane 'Shields.'

Stephen's father served in the Union,
enlisting in August 19, 1862 in Illinois.
He served in Company C, Illinois 98th
Infantry Regiment.
It is reported that Wallace
died during the Civil War. Stephen's
mother later moved with him and his
brother to Missouri. This was sometime
between 1860 and 1870. Here, his mother,
Mary, met and married Michael Graves. He
and his brother, William Riley, were raised
by Mary and Michael.
Mary and Michael Graves were the parents of
3 known children.
Stephen's half sibblings were:
Michael Joel Graves
George Francis Graves
Mary Aurora Graves

Stephen married Judith Ann Baker Melton
on the 19th of Feb., 1885 in Springfield,
Greene Co., Missouri. They were married
by F. R. Porter, Justice of the Peace.

He was the father of two children:
William Franklin 'Frank'
Bertha H.

The couple had 3 children that were
stillborn. Also one son, Robert E.
that died at the age of 7 months. All
the family are buried in the Ballard
Cemetery, with the exception of their
daughter, Bertha 'Dillinger' Hood, she
is buried in the Swars Prairie Cemetery,
in Seneca, Mo.

Stephen was a long time member of the
Baptist church.
