He was a retired machinist for Phillip Morris and a member of Northside Christian Church in New Albany.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Dotty Varble; sons, David J. Hanke Jr. (Beth), Todd E. Hanke (Teresa), Chad A. Hanke (Denise); a brother, Larry Hanke (Boo); sisters, Judy Hutchins (Ronnie), Mary Dale Gue, Joyce Cline (Calvin); four grandchildren, Brooke, Derek, Madison and Tyler; several nieces and nephews; and Val and Sherrill Bere.
A memorial service for Mr. Hanke will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3601 Taylor Blvd. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be from noon until the service time.
